Trump is an undisputed poster boy for narcissism. He demonstrates in pure form every single symptom described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) criteria for narcissistic personality disorder, which I wrote in 1978. But lots of successful people are extremely narcissistic without being mentally ill — think most celebrities, many politicians, and a fair percentage of writers, artists, lawyers, doctors, and professors. To qualify for narcissistic personality disorder, an individual’s selfish, unempathetic preening must be accompanied by significant distress or impairment. Trump certainly causes severe distress and impairment in others, but his narcissism doesn’t seem to affect him that way.

My long experience with psychiatric diagnosis has taught me a recurring and painful lesson: Anything that can be misused in the DSM will be misused, especially when there is an external, nonclinical reward for doing so. We decided to include narcissistic personality disorder in the DSM-III 40 years ago purely for clinical reasons. We never imagined it would be used as ammunition in today’s political warfare.

It’s also important to note that narcissistic personality disorder holds a fragile place in the diagnostic universe. It came quite close to being eliminated when the fifth edition of the DSM was published in 2013, and will be excluded from the forthcoming revision to the International Classification of Diseases, a set of codes used by physicians and other health care providers to classify diagnoses, symptoms, and procedures.

But that NPD disorder is part of the deadly cult and Messaih Mania of his Hitler on Steroids and PT Barnum charm.

Kennedy responded by detailing an argument between the United Kingdom’s Winston Churchill and President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944.

“Roosevelt said we have to denazify Germany and if we don’t denazify Germany … the Nazis are gonna rise up and do the same thing again. Churchill did not want an unconditional surrender for the Nazis. He said, ‘We’re gonna have to kill too many civilians to do that and everybody will fight for the death,’ but Roosevelt won that argument,” Kennedy said.

“We killed about 2 million Germans during World War II in order to get to Berlin and denazify it,” he continued. “Today, Germany is the richest country in Europe, it’s one of the most powerful economies in the world. I think it’s the fourth most powerful and nobody’s scared of Germany because it’s a peaceful country.”

Kennedy argued that he doesn’t see how people are making the argument for a cease-fire because Hamas has proved it only has one goal: to eliminate all Jewish people.

The independent US presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr called Donald Trump “a terrible human being”, the “worse [sic] president ever” and “barely human”.

“He is probably a sociopath,” Kennedy said in texts to an unnamed person, the New Yorker reported on Monday.

Kennedy has been linked to a job in a second Trump administration, not least after Kennedy’s son posted footage of such a move appearing to be discussed. Kennedy attended the Republican convention in Milwaukee in July.

Kennedy sought to pre-empt coverage of the bear story, posting video of him recounting it to the actor and Trump supporter Roseanne Barr and saying: “Looking forward to seeing how you spin this one, New Yorker.”

The published description of the dumping of the bear carcass largely followed Kennedy’s own. The magazine did include a picture of Kennedy posing with his fingers in the bear’s bloodied mouth and the verdict of “a retired Bronx homicide commander” who spoke to the New York Times about the episode, which was reported in 2014: “People are crazy.”

The profile author, Clare Malone, wrote:

“When I asked Kennedy about the incident, he said, ‘Maybe that’s where I got my brain worm.’”

That was a reference to a report in which the Times surfaced a deposition from one of Kennedy’s divorces in which he said a parasitic worm ate part of his brain.

Then, Kennedy said:

“I offer to eat five more brain worms and still beat President Trump and President Biden in a debate.”

Joe Biden has since dropped out of November’s race, in favour of his vice-president, Kamala Harris. Kennedy’s polling numbers have slipped, but both major campaigns still fear his impact in battleground states.

A son of Robert F Kennedy, a former US attorney general and New York senator, and nephew of John F Kennedy, the 35th president, Kennedy is an environmental attorney turned vaccine conspiracy theorist and political gadfly. The New Yorker profile contained extensive descriptions of his gilded upbringing, his drug use, his sexual behavior, his environmental work and his slide into anti-vaccine campaigning, efforts supercharged by the Covid pandemic.

According to the New Yorker, in the texts in which he abused Trump – thereby joining JD Vance, Trump’s running mate whose previous disdain has been widely reported – Kennedy also said Biden was “more dangerous to the Republic and the planet”.

Speculation Kennedy would drop out and accept a job from Trump surged around the posted call between the two men and the Republican convention. Amaryllis Fox Kennedy, Kennedy’s daughter-in-law and campaign director, told the New Yorker Trump had indeed offered Kennedy a job.

And, chances are, despite the fact that most Trumpists seem to believe that the DNC or the DEMONcRATS generally were the culprit behind the attempt, they won’t demand that anyone be arrested or investigated for it. Despite allegedly being almost killed, Trump seemed remarkably nonchalant about it.

Would you feel the same after surviving an assassination attempt? I wouldn’t be. I’d be out for blood and vengeance. But then, I am a very immoral and un-Christian person, so that is to be expected.

In fact, the whole saga around Trump’s ear was memory-holed for some reason.

So, actually, as the data proves, Trump won because 25+ million voters disappeared this time around, not because MAGA voted harder. It is impossible to understand the United States’ full-fledged support today for Israel’s genocide in the Middle East without understanding this history. Israel’s genocide is the United States’ genocide; they cannot be separated.

All these wars involve the machinations of the neo-conservative clique that in 1997 formed the Project for the New American Century that ran George W. Bush’s administration and whose protégées have come to exert great control of the foreign policies of Democratic and Republican administrations since.  It is not that they lacked power before this, as a study of American foreign policy as far back as the Lyndon Johnson administration and its non-response to Israel’s 1967 attack on the U.S. Liberty confirms.

Contrary to the widespread claims that Israel runs U.S. Middle East foreign policy, I think it is important to emphasize that the reverse is true.

It is convenient to claim the tail wags the dog, but it is false.

Israel’s war crimes are U.S. war crimes.  If the U.S. wanted to stop Israel’s genocide and expansion of war throughout the region, it could do so immediately, for Israel is totally reliant on U.S. support for its existence – as they like to say, “It’s existential.”

All the news to the contrary is propaganda.  It is a sly game of responsibility ping-pong: shift the blame, keep the audience guessing as they hit their little hollow ball back and forth.

Control of the Middle East’s oil supplies and travel routes has been key to American foreign policy for a very long time.  Such geo-political control is linked to the United States’ endless war on Russia and the control of natural resources throughout the vast region (a look at a map is requisite), stretching from the Middle East to southwest Asia up through the Black and Caspian Seas through Ukraine into Russia.

In both cases, the attacks of September 11, 2001 and Israel’s genocide of Palestinians whose ultimate target is Iran (America’s key enemy in the region as far back as the CIA’s 1953 coup d’état against Iran’s democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh), savage wars of extermination have been promoted through decades of carefully orchestrated propaganda.

And Trump-Kushner-Netanyahu LLC did not win because of love and caring and empathy for suffering millions or the blasted death zones of Gaza or Lebanon:

The Israeli self-defense claim not only violates the United Nations Charter, which in Article 51 outlines the conditions for resorting to force—conditions Israel does not respect, as evident in statements by Israeli officials, particularly Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He declared his intention to redraw the Middle East and presented his map before the U.N. General Assembly. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also stated on the first day of the aggression on Gaza that after Gaza, Lebanon would be next.

Thus, the goal is to attack Lebanon, not self-defense, which contradicts a fundamental principle of international law that prohibits an occupying state from invoking self-defense against resistance. The reverse is true.

Israel is the only state whose membership in the United Nations was conditioned on the implementation of Resolution 181 (Partition Plan) and Resolution 194 (return of Palestinian refugees). To this day, Israel does not implement these conditions. On the contrary, it has occupied all of Palestine, part of Lebanon, annexed Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan, and refuses to implement subsequent resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolutions 242, 338, and 497. It also disregards the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the separation wall and faces charges of genocide brought by South Africa.

In its aggression on Gaza, which has persisted for almost a year, more than 51,000 people have been killed, over 150,000 injured, and tens of thousands remain trapped under rubble, with more than 2 million displaced. In Lebanon, the ongoing aggression since early September has resulted in over 2,500 deaths, more than 10,000 injured, and over 1.5 million displaced. The aggression on Syria targets civilians and civilian infrastructure, particularly in Damascus, including the Iranian Consulate, which was destroyed, killing many diplomats.

In Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, more than 90% of the victims are women, children, and the elderly, and the aggression continues. Israel does not stop at committing acts of aggression, occupation, and violations of the sovereignty of Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria, but also targets civilians and civilian infrastructure, destroying buildings with their inhabitants, wiping out entire families. Trump has proclaimed that this is the last election, and that his supporters will not have to vote again.

The political reality is that the election of Trump sets the stage for an unprecedented repudiation of democratic rights, a wave of mass repression, and violent social counterrevolution. 

Plans are being drawn up for mass deportations. And on the economic front, Elon Musk has stated that the policies of the new administration will result in pain, by which he means the slashing of funding for essential social programs, especially those related to healthcare, education and retirement benefits. The corporations will be given a free hand to implement massive layoffs.

Moreover, despite his claims to oppose war, the Trump administration will pursue a foreign policy no less aggressively militaristic than Biden’s.

The defense of democratic rights and the social interests of the working class cannot be entrusted to those who are responsible for Trump’s victory.

An agreement made in October between British imperialism and the island nation of Mauritius over a U.S. military base in the Indian Ocean exposes how the U.S. capitalist class depends on military aggression to maintain a decaying U.S. hegemony worldwide.

Some Chagossians want full independence, calling for their right to self-determination as Indigenous people.

This small victory for the people of Chagos comes at the cost of continued U.S. military operations in the Indian Ocean. Given its location, Diego Garcia is a crucial base for U.S. imperialist interests. It forms part of a geographical axis of Indo-Pacific bases that encircle the current primary focuses of U.S. aggression: China and West Asia.

Neither Britain, a U.S. junior partner, nor the U.S. should be applauded for ceding territory to Mauritius nor allowing Chagossians to return to their lands. The agreement is a concession to Chagossians, but a half-measure that fails to grant the Chagossian people their full demands. Meanwhile, it secures continued U.S. military operations in a key region affected by U.S. aggression.

It was the U.S. government in the first place that requested that the British evict thousands of Chagossians nearly 60 years ago. British Foreign Minister David Lammy said,

“Today’s agreement secures this vital military base for the future.”
