Paulo, I appreciate your efforts and energy to spread the truth. But I'm too weak to absorb it all. I'm not able to finish this article. And I'm not sure how much all this awareness is affecting my mental health. I'm bewildered, and I don't understand where you draw your stamina from. Right now, I want to just curl up in a ball and feel love and to believe that the world is a good place for human beings.

In spite of all that, I encourage you and support your efforts.

Ahh, the curling up into a ball is what Trump Kushner Thiel Zuckerberg Ellison Adelson Netanyahu Fink Altman et al want.

Here, then, my book review on an American protestor who ended up in Japan for five decades.

Sure, it's long, but I am riffing with Robert Morris' memoir.

My response to my friend. Joe the Farmer from Merced:

Yeah. We'll Gaza is filled or was filled with innocents. Women and children and old. Civilians.

The beltway is now like a cancer in Virginia and Texas and throughout the fucking land with techies and coders and bankers and the lot making sure the bombs are all rigged up and motherboard fixed and satellite guided and tracked .

If I must Die by Refaat Alareer was given to me by a friend , Kelly Kloss, for my birthday which is today, fucking 68 years mother fucking young.

More humanity in this short book than all the books written by Jews.

The only way for this insanity to stop is for Washington DC and Wall Street to be bombed in the same manner as Gaza has been. Then maybe these idiot Americans will finally have their eyes opened to what the horrors of war are.

Over the past week, thousands of workers and students have taken to the streets across the United States to protest Trump’s assault on immigrants and democratic rights.

From major cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles to smaller towns throughout the South and Midwest, the protests have drawn widespread participation, reflecting deep opposition to Trump’s fascistic policies.

Protesters in Lansing hold signs that read, “Tax the Rich,” “This is a coup directed at you” and “Arrest Elon Musk,” February 5, 2025.

These demonstrations are an initial response to Trump’s unprecedented assault on democratic and social rights in his first two weeks in office.

Trump has issued sweeping executive orders to carry out mass deportations, gutted federal agencies, attempted to freeze government spending in violation of the Constitution, and escalated military operations abroad. His administration has placed the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, in charge of slashing social programs, treating the government like his personal corporation.

At the same time, Trump is laying the groundwork for martial law, deploying the military within the United States and making preparations to invoke the Insurrection Act.

The Democratic Party is entirely complicit in this escalating assault. As the World Socialist Web Site noted in its statement, “Democrats silent as Trump wages war on immigrants, erects framework for presidential dictatorship,”

Silence implies consent. The Democrats fear that even a symbolic show of resistance could provoke a movement from below that they could not control. Their overriding concern is to smother any genuine opposition and maintain collaboration with their fascist “colleagues” across the aisle.

The same goes for the pseudo-left, particularly the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), a faction of the Democratic Party. At demonstrations, DSA members have worked to block socialists from speaking while promoting the lie that the Democrats can be reformed into a “progressive” alternative.

The Socialist Equality Party (SEP) is advancing a different policy—a policy of struggle. The critical task now is to transform growing opposition into an organized movement of the working class against both parties of big business.

The SEP calls for the formation of rank-and-file committees in workplaces, schools and neighborhoods to fight against Trump’s dictatorship and mobilize opposition to the assault on immigrant workers. As the SEP explained in its statement on one week of the Trump administration, these committees will serve as “hubs for the dissemination of information and as the platform for mobilizing the population against Trump’s dictatorial efforts to break apart families and eviscerate democratic rights.”

The protests of the past week demonstrate that opposition exists, but without a clear political perspective, it will be disarmed and dissipated. The fight against dictatorship requires a fight against capitalism itself, which means building a movement independent of and opposed to the Democratic Party.
